CENTENNIAL PTA MEETING MINUTES

General welcome/introduction by Marci LeMonnier.

STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE REPORT

Reminder for Earth Day service at Slate Canyon Park:

Student Council will be making door decorations for Teacher Appreciation Week May 3-7

TREASURER REPORT – Cari Cardall, Treasurer

Beginning Balance $7, 382.33

Ending Balance   $7,402.99

$20 came in from Amazon Smile. Please use Amazon SMILE when you’re ordering through amazon. They send a portion to the school of your choice! (Centennial and Timpview are both options as are most Provo Elementary schools.)

Marci asked for a motion to amend the budget for Teacher Appreciation Lunch in April (from $900 to $1600) and Teacher Appreciation Week/End-of-Year Gifts (from $1500 to $1755).

●      Ashley Rayback made the motion (above); Kristina Davis seconded. All voted in favor.

SECRETARY REPORT – Marci asked if there were any changes to minutes. There were no changes suggested to Marci. Minutes stand approved.

PRINCIPAL REPORT – Kyle Bates

●      End-of-Level Testing in progress; started with reading/writing then math and science

●      End of year performances for dance, orchestra, band, choir, etc. at 25% capacity; 2 tickets per person and then live-streamed for friends and relatives

●      Thanks in advance for teacher appreciation week for both student council (who are decorating doors) and PTA for treats :)

●      No Lagoon (pandemic and school fee issues) or Food Truck Party but we’ll

trying to hold Centennial Idol — restructured for safety but we want to have closure for the end of year and include a yearbook signing activity in individual classrooms (rather than gym)

●      Next year we hope to return to traditional activities like student council returning to St. George for Leadership Retreat and assemblies

●      Thanks again to PTA :)

TEACHER REPRESENTATIVE REPORT – Katie Webster, CMS Counselor

●      If your kids are nervous about testing, counselors are available

●      Any other needs too :)

●      Next week is Hope and Kindness Week so encourage your student to dress up and participate in the week.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK REPORT – Cheryl Bikman, Board Member

We have $1363 from original budget and an additional $235 from excess Teacher Lunch donations. We plan to give the teachers a treat every day of Teacher Appreciation Week (May 3-7): Crumbl Cookies, Days doughnuts, Nuts, Soda variety, Popcorn and chips, and Gift Cards to Target: $10-15. We will communicate with Emily E to make sure teachers/staff know to come get the treats.

SCHOOL BOARD REPRESENTATIVE – Jennifer Partridge

●      CMS and City-wide Kindness Week next week: Kindness is about how we connect with people and we’re all craving it.

○      Overall kindness efforts are to help us understand each other and recognize that we all have a story

○      Kindness Club for district and City has a video coming out next week about unlikely friends. Watch it and share it!

○      Live social media event on Monday

○      Thursday Night they’re having a Zoom activity; Register but it’s free: ProvoKindness.org is their website

○      Saturday Event too

○      Kindness Bingo: 5 things in a row and you’ll receive a t-shirt or gift card

○      Combined City and School Board meeting last week which discussed importance to connect and unify as a community

●      Last School Board meeting we discussed writing a Diversity/Inclusion Statement. We don’t have one so we want everyone to know where the school board stands. We’re working to create one of those.

●      Timpview Bond was approved for $80 million dollars but because rates are really good; it’ll cost us $75 million to get $80 million and interest rates are lower so it’ll be cheaper than projected.

○      Wasatch and Dixon need to be rebuilt; An earthquake would be a big problem at those schools. Some community members are supportive of a rebuild and others aren’t. We need to figure out how to address the infrastructure needs balanced with taxpayer concerns as well as the location of Dixon.

●      Cari asked about video on safety measures: Raptor system is piloting at 4 schools to test it out and work through issues; Eventually it’ll be at all schools (maybe in the Fall??) Raptor is a system so that you need an ID to enter the schools for safety and for tracking in and outs.

○      Mr Bates said the system would be at CMS in the Fall

–       Marci thanked the Teacher Appreciation Team at Centennial. It takes a big team to make sure our teachers feel loved!

INFORME DEL REPRESENTANTE DEL ESTUDIANTE

Recordatorio para el servicio del Día de la Tierra en Slate Canyon Park:

Pruebas de fin de nivel en curso; comencé con lectura / escritura, luego matemáticas y ciencias

Gracias de antemano por la semana de agradecimiento a los maestros tanto para el consejo estudiantil (que están decorando puertas) como para la PTA por las golosinas :)

Sin Lagoon (problemas relacionados con las cuotas escolares y pandémicas) o Food Truck Party, pero

tratando de celebrar Centennial Idol – reestructurado por seguridad, pero queremos tener un cierre para fin de año e incluir una actividad de firma del anuario en las aulas individuales (en lugar de en el gimnasio)

El próximo año esperamos volver a las actividades tradicionales como el regreso del consejo de estudiantes a St. George para el Retiro de Liderazgo y las asambleas.

Reunión combinada de la Junta Directiva de la Ciudad y la Escuela la semana pasada en la que se discutió la importancia de conectar y unificar como comunidad

En la última reunión de la Junta Escolar discutimos la redacción de una Declaración de diversidad / inclusión. No tenemos uno, así que queremos que todos sepan cuál es la posición de la junta escolar. Estamos trabajando para crear uno de esos.

Timpview Bond fue aprobado por $ 80 millones de dólares, pero debido a que las tarifas son realmente buenas; Nos costará $ 75 millones obtener $ 80 millones y las tasas de interés son más bajas, por lo que será más barato de lo proyectado.

Wasatch y Dixon deben reconstruirse; Un terremoto sería un gran problema en esas escuelas. Algunos miembros de la comunidad apoyan la reconstrucción y otros no. Necesitamos descubrir cómo abordar las necesidades de infraestructura en equilibrio con las preocupaciones de los contribuyentes, así como la ubicación de Dixon.

Cari preguntó sobre el video sobre las medidas de seguridad: el sistema Raptor se está probando en 4 escuelas para probarlo y resolver los problemas; Eventualmente estará en todas las escuelas (¿tal vez en el otoño?) Raptor es un sistema por lo que necesita una identificación para ingresar a las escuelas por seguridad y para rastrear las entradas y salidas.
