The Utah MLK Human Rights Commission is excited to host their annual MLK Day event for 7th-9th grade students on Monday, Jan. 16 from 11a-2p! There will be lunch, an engaging coding activity, a basketball clinic, and more. Each attending student will receive a pair of athletic shoes and a backpack with various fun swag items from sponsors. Utah’s First Lady, Abby Cox will also be present to speak. The partners and sponsors include the: Utah Jazz, Comcast, Goldman Sachs, L3Harris Technologies, Zions Bank and Show Up Utah.

All registered students are strongly encouraged to submit an art piece or essay on one of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s six principles of nonviolence. Awards will be given to the top three submissions for each grade represented (7th, 8th and 9th). The winners will receive a Chromebook.

There’s still time for students to register but don’t hesitate. Registration will remain open through Monday, Jan 9th.

Here are some additional logistics for attendees. Please share with all registered students.

Please arrive on time. Lunch will begin at 11a. Free parking for registered participants is available across from Vivint Arena. Tell the lot attendant you are with the MLK event. Enter the arena through the front entrance, behind the large black note, on the corner of So. Temple and 300 West. Please do not bring ANY bags into the arena. Place all valuables in your trunk to discourage any potential auto break-ins.
