Centennial Middle School Wins the Regional Science Bowl
Centennial Middle School students did amazingly well at the 2018 Regional Science Bowl by placing 1st in the Western Idaho region. This region is comprised of schools from Utah, western Idaho and eastern Washington. In addition, the students and their teacher Mrs. Ashley Damavandi won an all expense paid trip to the National competition in Washington DC this April. Centennial is also the first Utah middle school to ever make it to Nationals! The Department of Energy (DOE) created the National Science Bowl in 1991 to encourage students to excel in mathematics and science and to pursue careers in these fields. More than 275,000 students have participated in the National Science Bowl® throughout its 27-year history, and it is one of the nation’s largest science competitions.
The team’s helpfulness and kindness represented Centennial and the district very well. The students had a wonderful experience, met volunteers from various STEM backgrounds and are returning to school more excited than ever to study the following tested areas: Life Science, Earth & Space (geology & astronomy), Physical Science, Mathematics and Energy (statistics, current research at government labs and the environment).
