Course Description/Overview/Welcome Statement
Welcome! We’re excited to work with you this semester! This class is a great opportunity for you to learn and practice the responsibilities of a great leader. Our job is to create a place at Centennial where everyone feels important. The lessons you learn here will be taught by advisors, student body officers, and even by YOU!
ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION:
Because attendance is a top priority, you will receive participation points each day you are here. This will account for 35% of your final grade. Any unexcused absence (or sluff) may result in immediate dismissal from Student Leadership Council. Students will earn participation points by completing various in-class activities. The only way to lose these points if you are in class is through unfulfilled responsibilities or by disregarding classroom rules.
Student Leadership Council members are also required to wear school attire/colors every Friday, and dress up for every dress-up day observed during this semester. Points will be recorded each week for participation in these activities.
Assessment of Progress
In addition to homework assignments, you are required to perform ONE HOUR of service EACH WEEK. You will be assigned a duty such as morning flag, afternoon flag, birthdays, teacher service, or lunch duty. This assignment will change every month. All assignments are done outside of class and on your own time (which may include coming to school early or staying late). A service log with a record of the service rendered and a written reflection will be graded each week.
You are expected to attend at least one school event, activity, or performance each term. This may include school dances, concerts, the talent show, the school musical, or club meetings. This is in addition to your own responsibilities (for example, if you are in band, a band concert doesn’t count). You will report on the event on Canvas each term.
Please bring your folder, paper, and something to write with each day.
Be respectful at all times, be prepared, be on time, and NO electronics.
Students are expected to follow all school rules and will be allowed no more than ONE lunch detention per term. If you receive more than one, or are referred to In-School-Suspension or Out-of-School-Suspension, you may be placed on probation and/or dismissed from Student Leadership Council.
If any of these expectations are not met, in addition to the loss of participation points, students may receive one or more of the following consequences:
- Warning (verbal or non-verbal)
- Staying after class
- Behavior essay assignment
- Lunch detention/after-school detention
- Phone call home
- Meeting with administration and/or parents
Calendar of Due Dates for Major Assignments
Assignment due dates are given in class. If you have questions about assignments, please visit with one of the Student Body Officers or an advisor.

Connecting Home to School
Because it is the best way to keep students and parents informed of important information, we require that parents and/or students opt in to our text-message reminder system. Personal numbers are protected, and will not be used for anything other than the reminder system. Standard text-messaging rates apply. All recipients will automatically be removed from the system once the class is over, but you may also choose to opt out at any time. Use the following instructions to opt yourself and/or your child into the reminder program:
- Send this message: @cms-slc
- To this number: 81010
- Then follow the directions sent back to you (it should only take a matter of seconds).
